About Vol. 3:

Seippelabel Vol. 3 wraps up 2015 as the final release of the season. For the first time we showcase material by two artists from outside of China; Simon Wetham (UK) and John Dombroski (US). In the same light there are three pieces featured by Beijing­based artists Li Jianhong, Ding Chenchen and Dizzydi. Five distinctively different contributions are present; ranging in feeling from sparse yet enveloping room sounds to mediative modular synthesis. The listener is then jolted into reality by abrupt chaos, only to sink into a final groove which concludes the compilation. Aside from Vol. 3’s musical content this installment welcomes the addition of two new members to Seippelabel; Corey Grunewald (website design) & Wang Shengnan (translation & editing).

Simon Whetham 西蒙∙韦坛:

Simon has a large number of works published through many specialist organisations, including Helen Scarsdale Agency, Crónica, Line, Dragon’s Eye, Monochrome Vision and Entr’acte; has performed exten Li sively internationally; collaborated with artists from musicians to performance artists, painters to video artists, dancers to poets; has run listening and field recording workshops in UK, Estonia, Colombia, Chile, Australia and South Korea; and received a large number of commissions and awards for projects and installations.

The recording features recorded sounds from the area and performative actions by Park Jin Young and Simon Whetham. "For over a decade Simon Whetham has developed a practice of working with sound recordings as a raw material for composition and performance. These are often environmental sounds he has captured employing a variety of methods and techniques, in order to obtain discreet or obscured sonic phenomena. More recently, when presenting work in a performance or installation, for him the space and the objects within become instruments to be played.

John Dombroski’s sonic and visual practice is comprised of music performance, video, and installation focused on human relation to physical spaces, interpersonal communication, intimacy, distance, and nostalgia. Dombroski’s music incorporates voice, field recording, and live AM radio transmissions processed through analog modular synthesizers and effect pedals. “Lost Frequencies / El Sereno” is remixed from a live performance at UAG / Summercamp’s ProjectProject in El Sereno, Los Angeles, California, USA on June 28, 2015.

Li Jianhong 李剑鸿-废光吉他 Wasted Light Guitar:

Li Jianhong is a Beijing­based experimental guitarist and photographer who comes from Hangzhou, China. This piece was performed and recorded at the former Beijing venue, XP on November 15th, 2013.

DINGCHENCHEN 丁晨晨:

Ding Chenchen (born Xuzhou, China) is a Beijing based, harsh­noise artist. Prior to being in Beijing he lived in Shanghai where he also performed under the moniker Noise666. As a live artist his performances vary in method, but a focus on loud, random noises are always present.
